Today is all about personalizing your home, and I don’t mean with monogrammed decor. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, and I love me some monograms, but this post is more about how to choose and layer in decor that really jives with you and your family’s decor and lifestyle.
The Better Homes & Gardens line at Walmart is constantly adding in new products both in-store and online, and I’m so thrilled to be one of their BHG Live Better bloggers and share how I use their products in my home.
It’s taken me awhile to really find my true decor style that’s uniquely me/us. Time and time again, I turn to certain decor staples to really help bring my vision and tastes to life in any room. I especially love decorating our family/living room because it’s where we spend most of our time. We watch TV, have cocktails, and entertain guests.
I have found that my FAVE decor staples to easily and affordably personalize my home are curtains, pillows, blankets, and candles.
Let’s start with my new curtains…black and white is a color combo that will always be my favorite, so it’s easy to bring those colors in with these beautiful Ironwork Curtains from the Better Homes & Gardens line at Walmart. These beauties are a steal at only $11.97 a panel! Designer look; Walmart pricing.
My love of all things shiny, gold and brass comes through with the addition of a new trumpet antique brass curtain rod. It’s lightweight, yet looks beefy and impressive. A beautiful, understated way to dress up a window, or in my case, some french doors.
Given that fall is almost here, I wanted to make our living room feel warm and smell like our favorite pumpkin, cinnamon and apple scents. This new rope lantern allows me to easily switch out my fall scented candles as the seasons change, and the candlelight reflects beautifully on my metallic acorns.
Our living room furniture really gets put to use during nights and weekends, so I always have plenty of pillows and blankets available. Besides being practical and comfortable for guests and pets, they help add in a punch of color and texture. This new leopard blanket is the softest throw blanket ever, and guests keep commenting on how luxe it feels (side note: it was only $9.97!) My new metallic gold foil cheetah print pillow is a touch of glam, which is definitely a Monica design staple.
Also, don’t be afraid to mix patterns. As you can see I have the ironwork/imperial trellis pattern, leopard, cheetah, plus metallics galore. This is where layering really helps. Mix in solid colors, various textures/finishes, and it all comes together for a really chic, curated look.
So, pillows, throws, candles/candleholders, and curtains are my go to, easy ways to personalize my space with a little bit of money and time. A bigger investment that can really set the tone of your room is furniture, and for our living room we went with a rustic, casual look that we would love for years and years to come.
The Better Homes and Gardens Crossmill TV Stand was the perfect mix of practical, affordable, and gorgeous. This TV stand is AMAZING– it’s a taller than the one we previously had, has plenty of storage, and looks good with just about any decor that we bring into the room.
Whether you want to spend $20 or $200, you can personalize your space by selecting decor you love in the colors, patterns, and finishes that reflect your home and personality. I always know I’ve done a good job when Pee Wee is happy and relaxed, as seen below. If he’s happy, I’m happy.
How do your personalize your home? Pictures of your family? Your fave patterns in your dinnerware or curtains? I’d love to hear your tips and tricks.
