My home is constantly evolving, and over the past year or so Daniel and I have made it a point to get rid of the random hand me down furniture and apartment stuff we had. We made a promise to ourselves to only bring pieces into this house that were high quality, true to our style and served a purpose.
Recently, I was able to get rid of the mismatched, hodge podge furniture we had in the dining room sitting area (AKA: Pee Wee’s Parlor). The different chairs and broken TV stand drove me bonkers, and I am so glad we have new items that make that area look snazzy. It felt so cluttered before.
My 3-step process when choosing furniture pieces to makeover a room or area is as follows:
- Function: what pieces do I need in order to enhance and support the function of this space? For this area in the dining room, I wanted a comfy chair to complement the gray sofa, a large coffee table to put drinks and play board games, plus extra space to act as a bar of buffet in a pinch.
- Style: what look do I want that works with the furniture, paint colors and accessories I already own that are staying in the room? Will I like this furniture item in 5 years? I wanted a timeless quality to each of the pieces so that they could work in other rooms. Also, they had to be small in scale to not overwhelm the space.
- Price: I love to get a good deal or value, so I always seek affordable style when revamping rooms. Sauder furniture pieces offer high quality, affordable and on-trend styles that are easy to blend with what I own.
So, let’s check out the Sauder furniture pieces I added into our family.
Addison Accent Chair
The leather-like material and gorgeous brass/gold nail heads were an easy sell. The Addison Accent Chair will match in any room with anything. It’s the perfect size so it won’t overwhelm the space like a larger leather piece might.
It is oh-so-comfy, and it’s held up really well to Pee Wee who loves to jump on it to bark at the squirrels. The brown leather-like finish is a great contrast to the gray tufted sofa.
International Lux Writing Desk
Although this is listed as a desk, I saw it’s potential as a mini-buffet/bar. The diamond ash finish of the International Lux writing desk works well with our weathered dining table finish, so it’s right at home.
The drawers offer extra storage space for my various dinner napkins and charger plates. Because of the holiday season, I may transition the desk to our guest room to serve as a vanity area/console for guests. For now, it’s a great spot to hold my recent wine purchases for game night.
International Lux Round Coffee Table
Hands down my favorite new piece from Sauder- the gold finish on the International Lux coffee table is not overly gaudy. The glass is good quality, and the space underneath the table allows for extra storage. I’m still on the prowl for some great baskets to go under here.
The size of the table is generous, yet it still looks airy. Another great perk is that the dust on the glass is easier to hide than dark wood…just sayin’. Pee Wee seems to be in love with the space, as seen above. Believe it or not, this table is under $125. A total steal.
Overall, these three Sauder furniture pieces add so much function, beauty and style to my dining room, and I highly recommend them. My space is now ready for holiday entertaining and lots of fun game nights.
The space currently looks different than these photos because I have all of my holiday decor up, so make sure to come back on Thursday, December 10 to see how it looks! I can’t wait to share my decor with you all. <3
