It’s week 2 of the New Year, New Room Refresh Challenge, and I’ve accomplished quite a lot in the last week! I ended up throwing away two huge garbage bags full of stuff and getting my office layout the way I wanted. If you want to see the hot mess I started with last week, you can catch up on the plans for my office makeover. Thanks to my girl Stephanie from Casa Watkins Living for hosting this fab challenge that’s kicking my butt in gear.
This week I focused on cleaning and getting organized. This meant getting my closet, desk and Vittsjo shelves in tip-top shape. I also needed a few more organization solutions, but I’ll be honest… I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on this stuff, so I looked around to see what I had for the most part.
Gold Leaf Shoe Box Storage
I bought some of these gorgeous gold crackled J. Crew slippers (so comfy!) and they came in a pretty shoe box that was actually pretty sturdy. So I grabbed my most favorite gold leafing pen and got to work making something funky and useful.
After about 10 minutes of random doodles, I had this beautiful, sturdy box to store some supplies in.
Not too shabby for a shoe box that I would have likely thrown out.
Home Office Craft Closet Storage
In my closet, it was quite literally stuff thrown into large fabric bins and nothing was sorted or organized, so I used the $2 gold Walmart wire baskets I initially bought for the pantry in this space. It’s still not as pretty as I’d like, and not as nice as my former office closet, BUT everything is organized, has a place and a label.
I love how the gold baskets look, and it’s easy for me to find stuff now. I used some vintage-esque gift tags as labels for the various baskets. I adore my label maker and can’t use it enough.
I also have a lot of pencils, pens, markers, etc. because I am an office supply addict, and I needed a way to sort and get them organized easily. I used a large gift wrap tube, cut the lengths I needed for the height of my box and sorted them that way. Not the prettiest solution, but I plan to wrap the tubes with some black contact paper for a sleek look.
I also used this same trick with this DIY portable craft station made from a wine holder- those things are sturdy!
And when the doors to my office closet are closed, you now see an organized Vittsjo etagere holding my craft machines, gold printer, some more decorative boxes with supplies and a dash of decor.
There are a few storage and organization gems on this Vittsjo, too. The box at the very top underneath the star is a gift box that has a magnetic latch, so I’m using it to store ribbon remnants for stuff like ornaments. The pink box near the foo dogs is a Versace Bright Crystal gift box that I added some washi tape around in order to hide the brand and make it look less like a perfume box.
All in all, I accomplished finalizing the furniture layout, craft/office supply organization and some clean-up this week. Next week I’ll move on to lighting, rug and planning out the artwork for the space. I am already loving how the space feels with the new layout, so it can only get better. Be back next Tuesday with more progress and pictures for my office space.
