DIY Grosgrain Ribbon Curtains & Nightstand Lighting

Gorgeous brass and crystal lamp on a nightstand in front of a mirror. Also features black and gold wallpaper in the master bedroom.

I am at the airport waiting to head home from the Design Bloggers Tour that happened at High Point Market! But while I am waiting for my flight, I thought it'd be great to write about the things I accomplished last week before my trip in order to help move our One Room Challenge master bedroom makeover forward. You can catch up on week 1 (design plans) and week 2 (DIY wallpaper and mirror installation).

We've been living with high-water curtains and a basic satin nickel curtain rod since moving in for the sake of blocking out light at night. Our roman shades gives us privacy, but our neighbors have bright exterior lighting that makes me feel like I'm Kramer in the Kenny Rogers Roasters episode of Seinfeld...so bright! Curtains are a must to make it nice and dark.

Add some personality to plain store bought curtains by using some grosgrain ribbon and iron on tape for a custom, chic look.

I picked up two sets (four panels) of these pleated curtain from HomeGoods for $60 plus tax. I really wanted white drapery to keep it feeling simple, light and airy in the room since I do enjoy drawing up the shades and letting all the light beam in.

While I like the drapery panels well enough for the price point I paid (essentially $15/panel), I thought they were a bit plain and wanted to spruce them up. I ended up opting to iron-on some black grosgrain ribbon towards the edge of each panel. This DIY was easy thanks to iron-on hem tape, but I will say it was a smidge on the time consuming side.

It took me about 2 hours from start to finish to get the ribbon onto the panels, and I'm so in love with how they turned. We then put up our new lucite curtain rod that I ordered online, and slid the curtains onto their new home using these super affordable gold curtain clips.

I FINALLY have a lucite rod! I've wanted one for years and always talked myself out of splurging- because let's face it, these are a bit pricey.

That's all the sneak peek of that for now until I have enough time to steam the panels fully.

But, in addition to the drapery rod and panels getting done, I unpackaged my gorgeous new crystal and brass bedside lamps provided by Lamps Plus. They're part of the Vienna Full Spectrum collection.

My previous lamps had a very large round shade, which meant they protruded out a lot. That's why I wanted a rectangular shade that took up less space and could be closer to mirror.

In addition to the amazing double-shade on the Darcia lamp, I also fell in love with the the crystal rods and warm brass tone that compliments the wallpaper.

I used a daytime white LED bulb, and I love the clean, crisp light it provides to the space.

And with that, the One Room Challenge is officially at the halfway point! Many thanks to Linda from Calling It Home and media partner House Beautiful for organizing this crazy fun challenge. You can see the week 3 guest participant updates here.

Next week I need to get the rug from the kind folks at Plush Rugs under the bed with the hubby's help, plus get the velvet green chair from DHP Furniture/The Novogratz in place, and work on the TV stand and TV wall, plus figure out the bedding and wall art and accessories...

Yeah, no big deal. <insert nervous laugh here>

Here's a recap of the vision:
