Oriental Weavers Kaleidoscope Rug Review

Before I get started, can we have a brief moment of silence for two home decor items that passed over the rainbow bridge?

I've had them a hot week or so, and my beloved cut glass pedestal vase cracked and broke as I washed it AND the bottom of the flatware case holding the gold flatware I bought broke on me. The flatware is fine. Yes, I literally just blogged about them last Friday and now they've left us. I really loved that darn vase. RIP, sweet, fragile vase.

But now for happier news...my new dining room rug! My dining room is long and narrow, so in addition to housing a large dining table, it also has a second living room (AKA: Pee Wee's Parlor). I've had a fairly neutral rug in there since 2011 or so, and I was itching to bring a more vibrant color into the the room. Once I saw the Sphinx by Oriental Weavers Kaleidoscope rug at Rug Studio's website, I was done for. I couldn't stop thinking about it.

For a 5x7 rug, it may seem a bit on the pricier side (I tend to stick to the <$150 range for a rug that size), but having lived with this rug for a month or so now, I can safely say it was worth the price. This rug is gorgeous, and the colors are even more vibrant than you can imagine.

The border of the rug is a navy color (this is important, you'll see why later), but the hot pink and bold pattern are truly the stars of the show.

Underfoot, this rug feels cool, plush and luxe. It came with a free rug pad, which helps protect our laminate floors and gives the rug an extra bit of cushion. Shipping was quick and free after placing the order on Rug Studio's awesomely organized website.

I am having trouble getting two of the four corners to lay flat, but overall, it's a complete stunner. Initially, I was kind of on the fence about how it looked in here, and I think it's because the VBB (very boring beige) walls and neutral sofa didn't create the backdrop I wanted for such a gorgeous rug. Sometimes a rug can inspire a room makeover, and in this case, it totally did.

This weekend when we (on a total whim) decided to get rid of the VBB walls and opted for a luxe, rich and divine flat navy wall color. When used in the right space, I think navy can act as a modern neutral. And as much as I love me a good gray wall color, it's time to move on and expand my horizons.

Fare thee well, sahara desert sand wall.

I have a bit of staging/decorating to do this weekend before I show off our new navy dining room, so you'll want to stay tuned for that...BUT I love you guys so much, so here's a tiny sneak peek. I LOVE IT.

Overall, the two rugs I was able to get from Rug Studio came packaged well, are outstanding quality, fabulous value and I'd definitely recommend checking them out if you're in the market for a new rug. They often have sales that make the rugs uber affordable, plus some come with a free pad, which adds more value. Thanks again to Rug Studio for generously providing two rugs for me to use in my home.
