Black Lined Bookcase Inspiration

Do you ever have an idea that you simply cannot get out of your head? I've been thinking about lining my bookcase in the living room with a black wallpaper ever since I saw this luxe and gorgeous wallpaper from Juju Papers. I fell in LOVE. I had to have it.

The only problem is that a roll is $200 (!!!!). And I cannot wrap my head around spending that much to line my bookshelves, so I thought about it. My goal was to spend under $20. I can definitely figure out a way to get the look for less, much like all the bloggers who love the Thibaut Tanzania pattern and DIY'd it. Yay for bloggers!

Do you remember when I wrote about my trusty Krylon gold leafing pen and it's awesomeness? Well, I am thinking that will be my tool of choice to freehand all the dots. Part of me thinks I am crazy for thinking I can do all this free hand, but it's just a bunch of random dots, right? It's not like I'm climbing Everest.

Here's what my bookshelves look like as of last night. Don't judge me! They haven't been styled at all recently because I know I am going to tackle this project this weekend. And I'm lazy busy and have worked on stuff like my breakfast nook makeover.

I feel like with my bright accessories and gold finishes, black would look amazing and set all the decor off. ALSO, I am ordering some prints from minted.com to add some personality and oomph to the living room, and I'll frame a few prints to add to this bookcase. I cannot wait until they come in!

I bought a product that I think will give me the look I want without having to paint the shelves or use wallpaper paste, and I'll be working on this idea/project this weekend. I hope to share some fabulous results with you next week. Cross your fingers!

And now, some black lined bookcases to give you some inspiration and an idea of my vision.

  2. Love it! I have used wrapping paper to back my bookcases with poster tape or that poster putty in the corners because I like to switch things up! I have also done beadboard wallpaper on the back of family antiques like barrister bookcase and a china cabinet as well as the inside of kitchen cabinets with glass doors. I like the pop it gives the inside as a contrast to the outside as well as the pieces I decorate the shelves with. Gotta have pop! Lol can't wait to see the finished product!
