Happy Thursday, friends! If you’ve been reading my posts this month, you all know I am trying hard to keep my home organized and looking its best. So now that I’ve gotten rid of outdated clothes, accessories, paperwork, and home decor, it’s time to get into a fresh and clean mode. There’s nothing better than a clean smelling home.
My home office/craft room is where I work and spend a lot of time when I am at home, and I have a tendency to leave it in disarray after my projects are completed. I’ve revamped and moved a few things around in my office to make myself feel more productive and organized, and I also picked up some Glade® Clean Linen® Wax Melts and a Glade® Wax Melt Warmer to keep my office smelling clean and fresh. The scent instantly makes me inspired to keep things tidy and in order in my home office.
Growing up in a Hispanic household meant I was definitely expected to pitch in and clean the house (because grandma said so), and to me a sign of a clean home is one that smells like fresh laundry coming out of the dryer. Those values definitely have helped shape me into the Latina woman and homemaker I am today, so thanks a bunch to my mom and grandma for setting me up for success AND a lovely home.
The Glade® Clean Linen® Wax Melts each last for about 16 hours, so a pack of melts lasts up to 96 hours. They’re simple to use-- you add one cube to the warmer and in a few minutes your room will be filled with a lovely, clean scent.
Because my office smells so fabulous now thanks to Glade®, I felt like spending extra time in there being crafty and creative using materials I had on hand to create a portable crafting station. I like to be able to easily take my supplies from room to room especially if we have kiddos over or a girls craft night.
I buy a lot of sparkling water, so the kind folks at the grocery store always put my glass water bottles in a carrier for me. These glass bottle carriers are durable and perfect for storing craft/office/art supplies, but I wanted mine to fit in with my other black, white and gold office storage items.
You could also use a drink carrier from a fast food restaurant if you have bulkier/larger craft items such as yarn that you want to tote around.
This DIY project cost me ZERO dollars and features items I already had on hand that you likely have on hand, too. Why not give this tutorial a try by pinning it now for a weekend project?
DIY Portable Craft Supply Station
Difficulty: Easy Time: 20-30 Minutes
- Cardboard drink carrier
- Contact paper (Use a busier pattern without stripes!)
- Black marker
- Gift card
- Toilet paper/gift wrap tube (optional)
Step 1: Lay your drink holder flat on the backside of your contact paper. Trace around the rectangular bottom part of the carrier twice, add about half an inch to all sides, and cut out both rectangles. Do the same for the top part where the handle is. You should end up with four pieces.
Step 2: Adhere your contact paper rectangles to the sides/lower half portion of your drink carrier. The entire bottom portion should be covered.
Step 3: Make relief cuts at corners and edges (see photo) to allow the paper to easily fold over corners and edges neatly. Several relief cuts may need to be made depending on your drink carrier. Once the cuts are made, fold and press down to adhere the contact paper to the surface.
Step 4: Now adhere the top part where the handle is on both sides. Once they’re both on, use scissors to cut a slit through the hole area and cut away the excess to reveal the handle portion.
Step 5: Cut contact paper strips for any other sections not covered by this step.
Step 6: Using the edge of a gift card, run it down the edges to get crisp edges and a polished finish to your new portable craft station.
Step 7: Fill with your favorite craft supplies and enjoy!
As you can see, I used a busy damask/filigree pattern that is forgiving, so don’t use a pattern that’s very linear or has to match up to look good.
If you have supplies that are too short to fit in there properly, cut a toilet paper or gift wrap tube to size, stuff the bottom with a grocery bag, and that’ll instantly elevate and corral shorter items such as crayons (like I did below) or markers.
I love how my new portable crafting station looks on my glass shelves in my office. It’s ready for crafting on the go!
