Black, White, Gold & Red Holiday Tablescape

For those of you who are vehemently against Christmas decor before Thanksgiving, I apologize in advance. I had up my fall decor for awhile thanks to the fall home tour blog hop I was part of in September, so now it's time to transition into Christmas mode to show off the gorgeous new holiday pieces in the Better Homes & Gardens line from Walmart. I love being part of the BHG Live Better network because they are constantly coming out with new, affordable products.

It is mega tempting to buy new everything each holiday season because so many beautiful home decor and tableware collections come out in the stores. I try to keep my spending low by mixing old and new pieces, which I'll be showing you all in this post today.

I am adamant about doing more holiday entertaining this year, so I wanted to spruce up my holiday dining pieces. A few years ago I bought some simple metallic gold and silver dinner plates that literally match with anything. They went through my teal phase, my jewel toned phase, and now my black/red phase. It so happens that this year's Better Homes & Gardens collection at Walmart also features a metallic line with a few items I had to have. I bought all of the items in my post in store, but they also have so many more products online.

Placemats are a great way to highlight your plates and set the tone. My tone is ALWAYS glam, and these beaded placemats are a stunning new addition to my table. I ditched the chargers because these placemats need to be seen. The quality is amazing!

The gold snowflake napkin cinched in the center looks like a bow holding presents for each guest, and at a pair for $2.97 they don't break the bank. The reverse side of the napkin is silver, so they are really versatile. I find that cloth napkins instantly class up any table, so they are worth the effort during special holiday meals.

My new metallic salad plates blend in beautifully with everything on the table, and I know I will love and use them for years to come. Metallics will never go out of style, so if you can snag them for a good price, buy them!

Honestly, entertaining always makes me nervous because I want everything to be perfect, BUT I do find table setting and decor to be oddly calming. Using candles, garlands and place cards is a no fail formula for a simple and beautiful table. I also invested in some gold flatware after wanting some for over a year, and my table just gleams!

I kept all the decor at a low level to help conversations and wine flow. I added a punch of red for a festive touch via red roses in a gold spray painted toothbrush holder from the Better Homes & Garden line. Faceted decor pieces are all the rage right now, and I love how this "vase" turned out. I got the idea from a fellow BHG Live Better blogger, and now I am set on finding another one so I have a pair.

A simple menu card I designed adds a bit of formality to any occasion. I love the faux foil gold look.

Overall, I think entertaining and tablescapes should be fun, festive, curated and show off your style. Choosing some beautiful, functional pieces such as smaller plates, placemats, napkins and candle holders to mix with items you already own is a great way to make things feel new again. And don't be afraid to use items for a different purpose (like a toothbrush holder turned vase).

Hope these ideas help inspire your 2015 dining table decor.

    1. Hi Jessica and Matt! Those dinner plates are/were from the Cindy Crawford line at JCPenney circa 2011ish. Hope that helps! I believe World Market and JCP both have a similar style this year.
