Black, White & Gold Home Office Reveal

You guys, I'm so sorry this is a week late! I was wanting to hold off on the reveal until it was completely done, but I honestly don't know when that'll be because I am stumped on what to do for part of the room. This reveal will have a lot of pictures, so grab a cup of coffee or glass of sweet tea and enjoy! I'll list any applicable product sources under the pics.

Welcome to my home office:

The room itself is probably about 11x10, so almost a perfect square. The accent wall is Peppercorn by Sherwin Williams and the white walls are Alabaster by Sherwin Williams. I regret not painting the wall black like I originally intended to, but it's a happy compromise.

When I decided to create a dedicated home office space for MWI, Inc., I quickly decided I didn't want to spend much money. A lot of the furniture is up cycled to fit the black, white and gold color scheme. The photo below shows my color and pattern inspiration:

One of my first DIY projects was my gold/white console table, which I wrote about here. Originally the plan was to have a massive gallery wall, but I had this HUGE mirror sitting in a spare bedroom and I decided to use it. It bounces a lot of light and classes up the space.

To either side of the console table, I have a small cluster of frames. I love the typography/motivational posters, plus the gold foil prints.

My desk is truly one of my favorite DIY projects, even though I had to redo the faux bois finish twice. I'll be posting a tutorial on that this Friday. I think sawhorse desks have a modern, airy feel, and I wouldn't have wanted a clunky/big desk in this room. The placement of it is still something I struggle with, but I didn't want to stare at a wall.

Below I have a clearance mug from Kirkland's, acrylic stapler and tape dispenser, Nate Berkus for Target gold scissors, and a gorgeous Kate Spade telegram gold foiled edged memo pad. The pencils, clipboard and pens are all from the Michael's Dollar Spot. And that fancy schmancy gold coaster is actually a lid from a holiday Bath & Body Works candle. I am all about upcycling. Girly accessories and glam finishes make this home office a luxe retreat. More photos at monicawantsit.com
I lusted after the VITTSJO shelving from IKEA for nearly two years, and a generous birthday gift allowed me to finally take a pilgrimage and pick up a pair of shelves. Some quick coats of my most fave True Value gold spray paint transformed them into beautiful shelves that hold things I love, find inspiring or find beautiful.

I have a penchant for wrapping paper, so this $6.99 Ross clearance basket serves a fabulous purpose.

I made this memo board out of thrifted frames (see what I did with the other ones here) and foam core board. This black, white & gold home office is filled with DIY projects and inspiration that is chic and cheap. Photo by monicawantsit.com
And of course, I have a fluffy bed for my boy to come nap on while I blog. He's usually glued to my side and I wouldn't change that for the world.

Now, I do need to finish the closet and the moldings. I have plans to revamp some old 1970's style doors, which I talk about in this post. I want the closet to have as much personality as the room-- chic, functional and glam.

And on the wall to the right of my desk, it's an empty white wall/space. I'd love to squeeze a comfy chair or a daybed in here to read or lounge on, but I don't want to splurge or spend the money right now.  Monica is desperate for a vacation.

I'll have more pictures in a few weeks when I add a rug and some more storage. You'll have to check back in early July to see more pics of how this is all coming together.

So, what do you think? Any suggestions for what I should do with that empty wall corner? Should I move anything around or is there some obvious furniture arrangement I am missing?

  2. Looking good! Worth the time it has taken to get it just right! Suggestions for your closet doors: fabric wrap-that way you can add some bold graphics or pattern similar to your beloved wrapping paper. Easy to do...just wrap and staple on back, easy to change when u want a new look! Idea 2 chalk board/corkboard...I did this to plain bifold doors before. The top half I painted with chalkboard paint...put molding across the middle to act as a chalk ledge...then glued on corkboard to the bottom half. Made the door useful and fun...

    1. Amy, those are great ideas! I hadn't thought about making the closet doors more functional than decorative, but I am loving the cork board idea. I'm obsessed with memo boards, so why not add some more- plus they'd literally be in front of my desk for easy access. Thanks dear! :)

  3. Love it!!! I have curtains exactly like that upstairs in the nursery. I get happy everytime I see them!

  4. So pretty!!! I've always been a huge fan of black and white and have been lusting after gold for awhile. I want to turn my unfinished basement into an office/craft room and I may just need to use these colors, plus some hot pink for my daughter who will be sharing the space as she grows (she's 6). Thanks for sharing! I look forward to seeing the rest.
