A Breakfast Nook {Luxe for Less}

Like I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I felt really inspired by Candice Olson’s first episode of her new show Candice Tells All. I loved the ideas so much, that I most definitely want to apply some of the same principles/colors/ideas to our breakfast nook. Here’s a little refresher of what her design looked like:

The items that most struck me in this makeover are the ikat curtains and the dining room table and chairs. She gives a shopping guide for the episode, but most of the items are still far too expensive or not available in the US.

Lucky for me (and you!), I’ve found similar online that you can definitely order and maybe even be able to afford. Yay!

Let’s look at the ikat curtains:

She lists the source as www.kravet.com but they don’t list prices. In my experience, if you have to ask, you probably can’t afford it. So let’s find some alternatives, shall we? If it’s the color/style that you want and you know how to sew, then these may be good options:

From Calico Corners, $20.00+ per yard.

image

From Fabric.com, $13.00 per yard.

From Hancocks of Paducah, $16.00 per yard.

Ok, but what if you’re like me and don’t know how to sew or have no aspiration to? Well, that’s cool, too. I couldn’t find curtains that look exactly the same, but lucky for all of us sewing-challenged people, there is a pattern (suzani) that is close enough. Bingo.

From World Market, $30.00 a panel.

From Urban Outfitters, $38.00 a panel.

From Pier 1 Imports, $35.00+ a panel.

The other elements I love are the industrial-inspired dining table and those awesome white chairs that remind me of little kid’s cafeteria chairs.

What I love about the table is the raw, earthiness of it. It seems classic and masculine, yet quite modern.

Industrial dining table from West Elm, $800+

From Urban Home, $199.00

Not quite the wood/steel look, but equally stunning. From Overstock, $294.00

And then there are those quirky chairs.

From Overstock, $151.00 for the pair.

From Overstock, $210.00 for the pair.

From Overstock, $176.00 for the pair.

And finally in the living room, these are a few things that jumped out at me:

The glass firescreen with pillars, the plush brown chair and comfy sofa .

Hope these finds help you feel inspired to liven up a space in your home. What do you think? What’s your fave detail/aspect of Candice’s design in this room?

  2. LOVE the link you gave for the sofa store!!! It looks like it's only in Cali though but maybe they'll deliver to KY? ;)

  3. Monica,
The Ikat styles of fabrics have been hopping off our shelves at CushionSource! We've been creating drapes, pillows and cushions with it (even just fabric orders)! We feature almost the identical Ikat you referenced for around $18-19/yard.
